Health Benefits

Infrared saunas aid with rebalancing your body. The infrared rays penetrate human tissue assisting revitalization. The benefits include natural accelerated healing, detoxification, prevention and anti-aging.  It is great for overall health and wellness and is especially useful for recovery following strenuous exercise. Athletes find it as a tremendous asset to their training and competition.

Detoxification

Far infrared (FIR) sauna’s deep penetrating heat causes sweat production. Sweating allows the channels of the skin to open, releasing toxins through the sweat. The intensity of the heat raises the core temperature, causes sweating and the release of built up deeply hidden toxins. It is widely accepted that the build-up of toxins within your cells and tissue are a major source of disease. Toxins are present in the water we drink, the air we breathe, chemicals we use and from the pesticides in the food we eat. The far infrared sauna has a different focus than traditional saunas.  2pfcedar-231x300 far-infrared-resonance-296x300

The sweat content of traditional saunas is approximately 95% water and 5% salt.

The sweat from far infrared saunas contains: approximately 80% to 85% water and 15% to 20% cholesterol, fat-soluble toxins, ammonia, toxic heavy metals, sulfuric acid, sodium and uric acid.  What is special about far infrared saunas: the core of the body temperature is raised not just the ambient air. This is what makes it more effective in detoxing. Combining this treatment with detoxing IV Therapy such as high dose Vitamin C or DMPS[1] increases the effectiveness of the treatments.

Relaxation

Far infrared (FIR) is a stress reliever. Its therapeutic heat relaxes your muscles and entire body. It also promotes improved sleep. The heat penetrates deep within the tissues causing a calming of the neurological pathways thus causing relaxation. Following treatment, the amount of the stress hormone, cortisol, decreases which is stress relieving. What’s more is the heat is soothing leaving you less tense following each treatment.

Lowers Blood Pressure

Far Infrared (FIR) saunas raise core temperature and induce deep sweating. The heat causes the heart to pump faster and the blood vessels dilate (enlarge). Together they increase blood flow and improve circulation.

Scientific evidence

A 2005 clinical study by the University of Missouri Kansas City, showed that using an infrared sauna at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes lowers blood pressure and increases circulation.[2]

Skin Rejuvenation, Anti-Aging & Skin Purification

The most effective wavelength for rejuvenating the cells of the body is with the Near InfraRed (NIR) wavelength (sometimes referred to as Red Light Therapy). It is excellent for healing the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin. Near infrared treatments stimulate collagen production within the dermis, which leads to an overall improvement in appearance, reduced wrinkles, more even skin tone and it creates a more youthful appearance. A study published in The Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy supports this claim. Participants used near-infrared technology for 12 weeks. They reported a reduction in wrinkles and crow’s feet as well as improvement in skin firmness, clarity, softness, smoothness, elasticity and better tone.[3]

Cell Health

Infrared rays heat the core of the body and produces an increase in blood flow similar to that seen during exercise.  This improved circulation delivers more oxygen and nutrients to tissues, muscles and cells. At the same time, the heat causes the channels of the skin to open, releasing toxins from the cells out through the sweat. Together these processes not only cleanse and improve system function but also improve cellular health and strengthen the immune system.

A NASA study showed that near infrared therapy (NIR) (Red Light Therapy) can quadruple cell health and tissue growth.[4] Other studies showed white blood cell production, collagen growth, improved cellular health, restoration of enzyme activity, and reduction of cell death by half.[5]

The bottom line is, near infrared saunas assist the body in healing faster.

Weight Loss

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association showed that an infrared sauna session can burn as much as 600 calories while just sitting in the sauna.[6] They do this by raising the core temperature.  As the temperature increases, the body works very hard to cool itself. This requires a great amount of energy which is obtained through burning calories. As the calories are burned, weight loss and loss of inches can be seen.

A study published in the Canadian Journal of Diabetes in 2009 showed just that.[7] It also found that individuals who have difficulty exercising due to chronic problems such as osteoarthritis, cardiovascular or respiratory problems received many of the same benefits as regular exercise, such as cardiovascular conditioning and weight loss.

Pain Relief

Infrared heat opens pores, improves circulation, penetrating healing affects deep within the body. The healing rays cause aches and pains to be relieved unlike any other sauna. It speeds healing, soothes aches, relieves pain located in tissue, muscles and joints. It has been useful in treating, rehabbing and speeding the recovery of sports injuries such as strains, sprains, tendinitis, pulls and tears as well as effectively treating the chronic conditions of chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia.

Speedy Exercise Recovery and Improved Circulation

Infrared rays produce an increase in blood flow similar to that seen during exercise as it heats the muscles. Regular Mid Infrared Range (MIR) sauna use, can stimulate blood flow up to twice the normal rate from 5-7 quarts per minute to as much as 13 quarts per minute.[8] The enhancements continue even after the treatment.

Wound Healing

A NASA study showed that near infrared therapy (NIR) (Red Light Therapy) can quadruple cell health and tissue growth.[9] Cellular growth increased by 155% – 171%. The reduction in wound size was as much as 36%.  Due to improved circulation and oxygenation, the healing process of wounds is faster, cell regeneration is increased and infections are resisted.[10]
